2026 Big / Voyageur Canoe Fitness Paddles with D. Tetz (30 Jul 2026)

Our Big Canoe Fitness sessions are focused on using the big boats to gain strength, power, and endurance. This is a paddling workout, you will learn many things about paddling the big canoes, but that is not the primary focus.

These sessions run every Thursday night depending on weather and water levels from our Buena Vista Storage Sheds. Come early to help get the boats to the water, bring your own paddles, PFDs, water bottles, and any other paddling gear you may require. Paddlers will also be invited to join Darryl and our leaders for Monday evening sessions.

We expect these sessions to commence Thursday evenings, 6:45 - 9:00 pm from April 23, and will run until late August. Once registered Darryl will forward a google spreadsheet so that you can report on which session you will be attending.... full attendance is the default. Coach Darryl will update on Monday locations once you have registered.

The start date, and all subsequent sessions depend on appropriate river conditions <600 cms.

The club collects a $25/month fee this year to help with program costs (insurance fees are up), equipment maintenance and replacement (we have a new canoe for 2024). Club equipment is available for new paddlers for the first session or three, then participants are expected to provide their own life-jacket, and bent shaft paddle. If you've not paddled big canoes before it is best to get in a session or two before acquiring your own paddle. For each session a water bottle, rain gear, and dry clothes in a small dry bag are good to bring along.

You must be healthy to attend any sessions, please do a COVID/Flu/Cold self assessment before each paddling session. If you are not feeling well please do not come.

Registration will be available from April 2 to August 11. You may register for additional sessions at any time.

RPPC Tuesday Night Public Access Paddling - Pre-registration Required (25 Aug 2026)

PAID ACTIVE CEYANA MEMBERS MAY ATTEND WITHOUT PRE-REGISTRATION OR PAYMENT. You may be asked to show your membership card (Log in to your profile page and download to your phone).

PUBLIC NON-MEMBERS MUST PRE-REGISTER. Late registrants will be asked to present their confirmation email.

The Ceyana Canoe Club has offered public access paddling (canoe, kayak, & SUP) opportunties to the public for over 20 years at the Rundle Park Paddling Centre. For 2026 our public access sessions are limited to the last Tuesday of each month. Participants must register in advance.

At the RPPC we have over 20 canoes, 30+ kayaks, and 8 stand Up paddleboards. Club Volunteers will be on hand to help new paddler select gear, launch, and will provide basic paddling tips.

Things to bring:

Come prepared for the weather, bring a towel, dry clothes (you may fall into the water), and shoes/old sneakers for the water.
Secure prescription eyeglasses with a cord. Glasses do not float.
Registration includes 1 adult only OR 1 adult + 1 child under 18 years of age.
No children under 5 years of age.

Registrations:

$5 non-refundable fee per adult registration. Fees for public access nights will be donated to EPCA (Edmonton Paddling Centres Association) which is a non-profit entity that owns the paddling equipment and leases the property from The City of Edmonton. While this fee is non-refundable it is fully transferable to someone else for the same date booked. Child registration is only transferable to another child.
All public non-members must sign a waiver.

Canoe Meadows Campsite Aug 28-30, Paddling in North the Kanaskis and Bow Valley (28 Aug 2026)

Come join us for camping at the Canoe Meadows Group Campsite in Kananaskis, and day trip paddling on local lakes, rivers and the whitewater race course on the Kananaskis River if you possess the skills! (and the water is running)

You are required to pay for the full weekend cost (for Fri and Sat nights) no matter how many nights you plan to stay. The camping rate quoted is per camping unit (1 camping unit is 1 vehicle with 1 tent (1, 6-person tent or 2,2-person tents) OR 1 RV, with max 6 people per camping unit as per AWA rules. No refunds are issued if YOU cancel after August 13.

Kananaskis Country requires you to have a 2026 Kan Conservation Pass, purchase from AB government here.

TRIP LEADERS: We are looking for volunteers to lead day trips. If you are a club trip leader and you have paddled in the area, please let us know. We will provide a free campsite to volunteer Trip Leaders. Please forward your trip leading offers with local reaches you are familiar with to Donna. (If asked to Lead, Ceyana will register you for the weekend with no fees.)

Local lake daytrips - Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lake and Barrier Lake.

Ceyana may offer local river daytrips up to Class II - the Middle Bow River to Banff Class I+, Banff to Canmore Class 1+, Lower Ghost Dam to Cochrane Paddlers Class II, Lower Kanananskis River downstream of Canoe Meadows Class II. ***Pending availability of leaders.

Rundle Park - Members Only Drop In Sessions (01 Sep 2026)

CEYANA MEMBERS may attend all sessions, need to sign in on-site to confirm current membership but do not need to pre-register.

If you have signed up as a new member or renewed your membership close to your first attendance date your name might not be on the list. It is your responsibility to download your active status card by logging in to your profile and clicking on the MEMBERSHIP TAB.

Members are expected to retrieve gear and boats on their own, clean off boats and return them to the proper areas of the storage shed on their own.

Thompson River Canoe Trip--in Voyageur Canoes (11 Sep 2026)

The Big Canoe Rendezvous typically occurs on the Thompson River each year on the second weekend of September. It is held on the Thompson River near Savona on high volume class 2 whitewater. It has traditionally been co-hosted by the Victoria Canoe and Kayak Club (VCKC) and the Thompson Rivers Interior Paddling Society (TRIPS Canoe Club). https://www.bccanoe.com/events/rcabc-big-canoe-rendezvous.

Ceyana Canoe Club is organizing a crew to attend this Thompson River canoe trip in BC this September.

Proposed Itinerary

Friday, September 11
Travel from Edmonton to Juniper Beach Provincial Park, just east of Cache Creek, and set up camp

Saturday, September 12
Paddle the Thompson River from Savona to Ashcroft, with lunch at Juniper Beach.

Sunday, September 13
Paddle from Savona to Juniper Beach, load the canoes around noon, and travel back to Edmonton.

The Thompson is a large-volume river with Class 2 rapids, so paddlers should have some big-canoe and/or moving-water experience.

Estimated Cost & Transportation

The estimated cost is approximately $150 per paddler. This should likely cover the cost of towing the canoes and shared transportation, with team members carpooling together in the truck and a secondary vehicle.

Participants will also be responsible for their own camping and food costs.

Tow vehicle: If you have a suitable vehicle and are willing to help tow the canoes, please let us know when you register.

Payment will be required by August 21.

RCABC membership will be required for insurance purposes, Wade and Liz Martinson will go over the process with registrants.
